Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Tuesday 07.01.2020

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

I helga kom det mye tørr nysnø og det har vært periodevis kraftig vind fra ulike retninger. Snødekket er ujevnt fordelt med fokksnø i forsenkninger og det er avblåst ned til mildværsskaren andre steder. Mandag er det mildere og mandag kveld er det ventet plussgrader opp til ca 1200 moh.

Flere runder med mildvær den siste tiden har gjennomfuktet snødekket omtrent til fjelltopp i hele regionen, så nedre del av snødekket er generelt smelteomvandlet og stabilt

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -2 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 7. January 2020

8-12 mm precipitation. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to gale from the south during the evening. -1 °C to 5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Litt synkende temperatur utover dagen fører til at sannsynligheten for våte skred avtar.
Fortsatt påfyll av nysnø høyt til fjells i kombinasjon med vind gjør at det vil legge seg opp ny ustabil fokksnø i leomåder. Generelt ventes lokalt ustabile forhold der det ligger fersk fokksnø.
